Extremely competitive situations may call for extremely competitive measures.  Cloaking should only be used when absolutely necessary because it carries some risk.

There are several types of cloaking, but they all have some basic similarities.

1. They show a different page to the search engines than to a human visitor.
    
2. They hide the "real" page from all but the search engines; keeping your optimization techniques secret.
    
3. They are complicated to set up and maintain.
    
4. If a Search Engine discovers you are cloaking it can hurt your rank or cause your ban from the engine.
